Lion’s Grove service delivery in spotlight

Waste management was one of the topics under discussion.

Lions Grove residents held an important meeting with various stakeholders at Marburg Secondary last Sunday. Issues under discussion included service delivery, crime, waste management, power cuts and cable theft. The meeting was called by Lions Grove residents, with Ward 23 councillor Bheki Cele and Phumlani Gumbi (Ray Nkonyeni Municipality speaker) invited to attend.

However, leaders like Kavinder Manawer who coordinated the meeting and had invited key stakeholders, were disappointed by the poor attendance from the community as it was an opportunity for them to give voice to their complaints.

Those in attendance also included representatives from Saps and private security companies.

Manawer said the meeting went well but it was a letdown that so few from the community attended, in particular residents from Sastri, Indira and Seaview roads.

He thanked those who were there. “Your participation and input were invaluable and your contributions to address the challenges that every resident faces is appreciated,” he said.

He explained that the leadership was committed to assisting in resolving long-term issues.

“It cannot be done overnight but at least now we know that we are not a forgotten section of the area. Our cries for help are reaching the ears of those who can make a difference. The speaker’s immediate action is testament to this. We look forward to working together to ensure service delivery.”

He called on the community to stand together to fulfil the goal of a clean, crime free area.

Fathima Moosa, the chairperson of the Marburg Ratepayers’ Association, felt that the issues were well presented at the meeting, and that each point of concern was taken into account.

“The councillor, his secretary and the speaker were in attendance; that in itself speaks volumes,” she said.

Moosa echoed Manawer’s sentiments regarding to disappointing turnout.

“Residents that did not attend and who do not attend meetings, you are missing out on your voice being heard,” she said.

She praised those who did attend, and encouraged Manawer do keep up the good work.
