Tongaat duo victorious at Wild Coast thunee

The Tongaat duo showed remarkable skill from start to end to win the Wild Coast Sun Hotel and Casino Resort thunee competition recently.

The much anticipated thunee competition held at the Wild Coast Sun Hotel and Casino Resort recently saw about 100 teams taking part.

Thunee gurus from around the country played in the first competition of the year and, as usual, the tournament did not disappoint.

Port Shepstone was well represented at the thunee tournament.

After seven grueling rounds of high stakes thunee compo, Jaya Naidoo and Justin Chetty from Tongaat, emerged overall winners, winning R20 000.

They showcased remarkable skill from start to end, closing the game by handing a four ball to their opponents, winning the two set game 2-0.

Jaya Naidoo won his second championship title with a different partner. For Justin Chetty this victory is especially significant as it was his first major win.

Taking second position were Nicky Soobramoney and Trevind Ganase from Chatsworth, winning R7000. In third position were Kevin Moodley and Anthony Perumal from Richards Bay, winning R3000.

Numerous other prizes were handed out to players as well.

The event attracted a full house of players from as far afield as Johannesburg, Ladysmith, Durban and Richards Bay, with huge support from South Coast players.

Organiser Anandh Perumall thanked all players and sponsors for making the event a great success. “This event has been running for the past 14 years and grown, as is evident from the fact that teams from Johannesburg have shown a keen interest in taking part. The next thunee meeting will be held in November,” he said.
