Vehicle accident at collapsed Scottburgh road raises concerns
Ward councillor Daniel Daniels confirmed that there were no injuries, however, she is still concerned that a more serious one may occur if nothing is done to fix this space.

A vehicle crashed into a collapsed section of road in Scottburgh last week, which has been lying unrepaired for several months.
The section is at the end of Galway Street, just before the Cordiner Street turn.
Ward councillor Dana Daniels confirmed that there were no injuries, however, she is still concerned that a more serious one may occur if nothing is done to fix it.
Four months ago, the Herald did a site inspection with Daniels, and to date nothing has been done to repair it.
A massive chunk of the road collapsed after wet weather on the South Coast, and this section was cordoned off with tape because of the danger.
“I am concerned and frustrated regarding the ongoing dangers posed by the damaged Cordiner/Galway bend and the washaway in Minerva Road,” said Daniels.
“These hazards have been reported numerous times to municipal authorities, yet no meaningful action has been taken. The issue has even been highlighted in the local newspapers, but sadly, it continues to be ignored.”
“I personally put up caution tape around the washaway, and others have helped, but this is not a permanent fix. I’ve had to return several times to reattach the tape as it comes loose.”
“What is urgently needed is not more temporary barriers, but proper, lasting repairs before lives are lost,” explained Daniels.
Daniels has reported this accident to the municipal manager and requested urgent intervention.
A big concern is motorists travelling near this bend after sunset.
“This is definitely a risky road to drive on, especially at night, so motorists are asked to drive with caution. It is only a matter of time until something serious happens.” said Daniels.
