Sewraj stuns with Big Fish close
The men's team went through the champs unbeaten, winning 10 out of 10 games.
Local darts players made history at the 2025 South African National Darts Championships held at the Wild Coast Sun Casino Resort recently.
Players from Port Shepstone District Darts Association competed under the Ray Nkonyeni Darts Association banner for the champs.
They set the champs alight and the darts community was abuzz on hearing about how well they had performed.
The men’s team went through the champs unbeaten, winning 10 out of 10 games.
The women made an historic debut, eventually finished a commendable sixth out of 12 teams.
And local star Pravin Sewraj contributed to a provincial title.
In addition to his significant contributions to the Ray Nkonyeni men’s team, Pravin also represented KZN in the Masters Inter-Province championships at the same event.
His team finished top of the log, securing five wins and two draws, with no losses to cement their place as provincial champions.
Pravin captivated audiences with consistent high scoring, including an impressive seven 180s.
He achieved a rare and highly celebrated feat in darts: checking out 170. “Simply exceptional, truly world class,” said Ray Nkonyeni chairperson, Bupen Prakash.
This incredible close involved scoring triple 20, triple 20, followed by a perfect double bull (bullseye).
It showcased pinpoint accuracy under pressure and was a highlight of the champs.
“The champs have been truly historic for the region and a dream come true,” said Bupen.
Team captain Rakesh Ramdhun said he was proud of the team, not only for the achievement but also for the way in which conducted themselves.
In addition to Pravin, the men’s team consisted of Wayne Eva, Jewan Bowla, Louis Visser, Venesh Sewraj and Vasu Govender.
The women’s team comprised Tanya Hattingh, Indrani Sewraj, Egscha Bam, Jordan Newman, Sanet Swart and Nishana Bowla.
Looking ahead, the local association is now planning to build on this extraordinary success, continuing to elevate the standard of darts and fostering a winning spirit within its ranks.
