Marburg CPF’s flea market supports entrepreneurs

The flea market will be held every Saturday at the community centre from 09:00.

An aroma of delicious foods – curries, chicken tikka, samoosas and much more – filled the air at Marburg Community Policing Forum’s (MCPF) market day last Saturday.

The forum hosted its first-ever market and it turned out to be a fun family day.

Chairperson of the forum, Fathima Moosa, said the community centre, once known as the Marburg Rehabilitation Centre, had sadly fallen into a state of neglect and was vandalised by vagrants and criminal elements.

“Seeing the potential for renewal, MCPF took it on to restore the facility and relaunch it as the Marburg CPF Community Centre. There’s space for community upliftment and opportunity. One of the centre’s exciting new initiatives is the flea market, which aims to support local entrepreneurs by giving them a platform to showcase and sell their products. Despite competing events in the area on the same day, the MCPF flea market stood strong – a testament to the determination of the organisers and the support of the community,” said Moosa.

The success of this event is just the beginning. With continued community support and ongoing commitment from the CPF, the community centre is set to become a hub of empowerment and positive change.

Moosa thanked the public for their support. The flea market will be held every Saturday at the community centre from 09:00. It’s safe with ample parking.
