Donation to boost road maintenance in Umdoni Municipality

Umdoni Municipality mayor, Mbali Cele-Luthuli said the donation will assist in conducting pothole patching on deteriorating roads.

Umdoni Municipality recently received a donation of road maintenance material from the Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA).

The donation included 147 bags of cold premix, 10 drums of bitumen emulsion, crusher dust, G2 material, 70 bags of cement, crush stone, and more.

Umdoni Municipality mayor, Mbali Cele-Luthuli said the donation will assist in conducting pothole patching on deteriorating roads.

Cele-Luthuli said following the municipalities adopted roads maintenance programme, maintenance work will be undertaken in wards seven, nine, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 17. .
She described the donation by MISA as more than just a delivery of physical resources, but a lifeline.

“For far too long, Umdoni Municipality has faced serious challenges in fulfilling its legislated mandate, particularly around road maintenance. Financial constraints and limited access to materials have hindered our ability to respond effectively to the needs of our communities. The result has been a growing backlog in service delivery, especially in road infrastructure, which we acknowledge,” she said.

Cele-Luthuli added that with this donation, they will make visible improvements in making roads pleasant to drive on for residents and holidaymakers.

The mayor handed over the donated material to the municipality’s technical services department tasking it to use the material with urgency.
