Munster python safely relocated by local snake expert
Despite common misconceptions, pythons and other snakes are not aggressive towards humans.
Corrie Lotter, an ASI-licensed snake catcher, recently assisted with relocating a large Southern African python in Munster.
Lotter works across Munster Conservancy and neighbouring areas, including Leisure Bay and Palm Beach, helping residents safely remove snakes. While the service is free, homeowners are encouraged to donate to their local conservancy when possible.
The 2.8-metre male python was caught at the same location where a female had been captured just two days earlier. “He was apparently following the female.
We’re at the latter end of mating season – where pythons are concerned – as they mate in winter,” Lotter said.
The snake was safely returned to its natural habitat in Munster.
Lotter emphasises that despite common misconceptions, pythons and other snakes are not aggressive towards humans. “They don’t fly, chase people, or seek trouble. In fact, they’re usually just trying to get away from us,” he explained.
