New tools of trade marks turning point

Umdoni Municipality has announced that its roads and stormwater section has been capacitated with new tools of trade, four tipper trucks and a water tanker.
These additions are a direct response to the growing need for efficient and cost-effective road maintenance solutions across both urban and rural areas.
The tipper trucks will play a crucial role in enhancing the municipality’s ability to maintain and rehabilitate roads, while significantly reducing reliance on external plant hire services.
This move is expected to result in substantial cost savings and improved turnaround times for maintenance operations.
The water tanker will support dust suppression and compaction activities, particularly in rural areas where gravel roads are prevalent. Together, these tools will empower the roads and stormwater section to respond more effectively to the high volume of complaints received regarding road infrastructure conditions.
“This investment by the municipality marks a turning point in how we deliver services to our communities. By equipping our roads and stormwater teams with the right tools, we are not only improving operational efficiency but also restoring public confidence in our ability to maintain critical infrastructure,” said Mayor Mbali Cele-Luthuli.
