No transparency for labour unrest
There have already been numerous work stoppages this year and last year.
Angry Umdoni residents are seeking answers and accountability with regards the latest municipality labour unrest.
The municipality released a statement on Monday this week informing the public that all municipal services would be disrupted due to labour unrest.
However, no explanation was given as to why this was happening.
The municipality said it was engaging with union representatives in an effort to reach a resolution, and extended an apology to the community for the inconvenience.
Later that day, it emerged that several councillors said they had not been informed about what had led to this latest case of labour unrest.
They demanded proper communication and transparency.
As many residents know, this is not the first time labour unrest has affected the Umdoni Municipality.
There have already been numerous work stoppages this year and last year, for matters concerning job evaluation, salaries and corruption allegations.
Residents are frustrated with this recurrence with many stating that, on Monday, people wasted hours of their time at the licensing department as they were not properly informed that there would be no municipal services.
As all services are currently halted, there are rising concerns of the amount of garbage that will pile up in the town once again with no refuse removal.
A further update on the situation (and answers) is awaited from the unions and Umdoni Municipality.
