Hindus observe month-long fast
Navaratri is spread over nine nights and 10 days, and is one of the most sacred festivals in Hinduism.
Hindus will observe a period of fasting in September and October.
Pitra Paksh is being observed from September 8 to September 21, while the festival of Navaratri (over nine nights and 10 days) will take place from September 22 to October 2.
Purtassi encompasses obeisance, penance, devotion and prayer dedicated to Lord Perumalsamy, mostly observed by Tamils and Telugus. It starts on September 17 until October 17.
* The Umbango Sri Siva Soobramanior Alayam (Umbango Temple) is observing its Maha Khumba Abishekam prayer until October 26.

* The Shree Hanuman Sanathan Dharma Mandir of Lower Albersville holds its Navaratri prayer from September 22 to October 1. Week day prayers will be held at 18:00 and at 15:00 on weekends. Daily invocation prayer, recitals of the Maa Durga Saptashati and hawan will be held. The mandir will host Pravesh Sunker Music Productions at its Khanya Puja on September 27, from 15:00.
