Mayor challenges transport department
Mzindle told the DoT that there is no reason to beg the contractor to finish the job as there are many contractors in Ugu who are capable of doing a great job, without any problems.
Ray Nkonyeni Municipality mayor, Zodwa Mzindle, has challenged the KZN Department of Transport (DoT) to rather look at regional civil engineers when giving out road rehabilitation tenders to bidders.
Mzindle was speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting at council chambers last Friday, where an update was provided on the ongoing rehabilitation of the Mzimkhulu River bridge on the R102 in Port Shepstone.
Also, the rehabilitation of Marine Drive was raised. The DoT’s Durban regional head, Muzi Sithole, reported that the department is still in talks with the contractor to return to the site to complete the job.
Mzindle told the DoT that there is no reason to beg the contractor to finish the job as there are many contractors in Ugu who are capable of doing a great job, without any problems.
“We have engineers in Ugu, pity they did not get the job. We have many people around here who have the muscle, I am talking about money. Just call me, I will call them, we will come into one room and talk about it. Let me tell you, they will not wait for an invoice, they will work and you can pay them later,” she said.
