Conservancy marks Arbour Day with tree planting
A special tree planting ceremony brought the community together ahead of Arbour Day.
Umtamvuna Marine Conservancy (UMC) added two indigenous trees to the sidewalks of Port Edward ahead of Arbour Day.
Guest of honour, the inimitable Paddy Norman, representing the KwaZulu-Natal Conservancies Association, planted two Outeniqua yellowwood trees, which naturally occur in the southern areas of the Western Cape, as well as in the Eastern Cape, KZN and Mpumalanga.
The trees prefer coastal areas but not dunes. Ray Nkonyeni Municipality Horticulture approved the placement and type of tree.
The planting ceremony was well-attended by UMC members and interested residents.
UMC chairperson Renée Alcock emphasised that the event was due to teamwork and thanked all involved for their commitment to conservation in Port Edward.
