Umdoni Municipality workers marched through Scott Street, Scottburgh this morning, at around 10:45.

This was carried out as part of the Umdoni labour unrest where workers have halted municipal services for longer than a week.

The municipality announced last Monday (September 8) that there will be no municipal services due to the unrest, and that there are active engagements with union representatives in an effort to reach a resolution.

The municipality still has not provided clarity as to what the grievances are for the latest unrest.

A special council meeting was held on Friday (September 12) last week to address these matters, but was interrupted as staff and unions entered council chambers to voice their concerns.

Umdoni residents are demanding that the municipality be more transparent with the labour issues.

A number of individuals have already taken it upon themselves to clean up parts of Scottburgh as they could not bear to see the town in this state with no refuse removal.

This is not the first time labour unrest has affected the area.

There have already been numerous work stoppages this year and last year, for matters concerning job evaluation, salaries and corruption allegations, etc.
