Repairing one pothole at a time in Tweni
A call to Umtentweni ratepayers who haven’t yet voted for the Urban Improvement Precinct, to do so promptly.
The Umtentweni Residents’ and Ratepayers’ Association (URRA) has been focused on a pothole repair initiative on Auben, Mitchwood and Cussonia roads recently.
Additionally, a pothole repair workshop was conducted by civil engineer, Donovan Fisher, who has over 30 years’ experience.
Many streets in Umtentweni are affected by potholes, noted a resident.
Nazir Shaikh, chairperson of the URRA, emphasised that residents need to collaborate with the municipality and local councillors to find solutions to service delivery challenges.
“URRA is eager to establish Umtentweni as an Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP), which will enable the community to work towards creating a safer, cleaner and greener suburb,” said Shaikh.
UIPs are defined areas where the majority of property owners (51%) agree to pay an additional nominal amount for supplementary services, to complement those provided by the municipality.
Chris Connellan, chairperson of the UIP, reported that over 500 home owners have agreed to the UIP. He urged all ratepayers who haven’t yet voted to do so promptly. Voting forms are available at the Tweni Library, Jaxx Restaurant, or can be obtained from the google link from the Umtentweni improvement project group.
