Hindus to observe important prayers
Its a time for fasting and prayer for many Hindus which will lead to the celebration of Diwali on October 20.
Hindus have started to observe a period of fasting during the months of September to October. Pitra Paksh is observed from September 8 to September 21 while the festival of Navaratri will take place from September 22 to October 2.
Purtassi is the month-long fasting obeisances, penances, devotion and prayer dedicated to Lord Perumalsamy and is observed mostly by Tamil’s and Telugu’s. Purtassi starts on September 17 until October 17.
The Hibiscus Coast Navaratri Committee is pleased to have acquired the service of Bhagwat Acharya Nawal Kishore of Haridwar, a respected preacher of Shrimad Bhagwat Katha and Vedic rituals. The sudden demise of Shastraji Ramsusheel Chaturvedi has left a deep void within the committee and its devotees.
Its Navaratri celebration will continue as normal, and invite all to join in celebration in honour of Durga Mata. Pooja will be held at the Port Shepstone Arya Samaj Hall, in Andreason Street, from September 22 to October 1, at 17:30 on Weekdays and at 14:00 on weekends. * The Umbango Sri Siva Soobramoniar Alayam (Umbango temple) invites all to its Purtassi and Narisimha prayer this Saturday, September 20 with Hawan at 14:00 followed by bhajans rendered to Lord Venkesteswara. * The Umzimkuluwana Shri Siva Soobramoniar Temple will host its Purtassi prayer every Saturday starting this Saturday, September 20 until October 11. Prayer will start at 13:00. For further information contact Indresen Pillay on 073 1255431.
* The Shree Hanuman Sanathan Dharma Mandir of Lower Albersville will host its Navarathri prayer from September 22 to October 1. Week day prayers will be held at 18:00 and at 15:00 on weekends. Daily invocation prayer, recitals of the Maa Durga Saptashati and hawan will be held. On September 27 the Mandir will host Pravesh Sunker Music Productions during its Khanya Puja from 15:00 and Shakti Nagara on September 28 at 15:00. Saraswati prayer will be observed on September 30. Diwali celebrations will be observed on October 11 at the Mandir. Loads of fun and entertainment is planned with the highlight being a fireworks display. All are welcome and supper will be served. * The International Society for Krishna Consciousness is hosting ‘Enlightening the soul with spiritual knowledge’ at the Shree Raam Narayan Temple in Marburg (Dairy Road) this Saturday, September 20 at 15:00.
