By simply donating a box of baking ingredients you can help change the lives of children battling cancer.

This is being made possible through the Cupcakes of Hope Bake Box initiative. The Bake Box Initiative was launched as a school based collection drive to support little warriors with cancer and their families.

The collection of dry ingredients (such as flour, cocoa powder, cooking oil, icing sugar, castor sugar, sprinkles and sweets) helps volunteer bakers across the country to bake cupcakes and raise funds for the needs of these children.

Umzintovale Primary School was the first school in the area to join the Bake Box Initiative. Local baker and Cupcake Angel Michelle Ursula Naidoo from Scottburgh visited the school on Friday to explain to learners the importance of this initiative and the work Cupcakes of Hope does.

At the assembly, learner Ziyan Sulaman said a prayer that was specific to those with cancer, their families, hospital staff and supporters. Naidoo was also joined by Lee-Roy Christianson from Coastal Rush Errands who generously supported Naidoo to bake for National Cupcake Day and donate to Scottburgh Lions at Scottburgh Mall on September 27.

Christianson was also the ‘ninja’ who assisted in a Q & A session by giving the learners treats when answering questions.

Naidoo gave a brief history about Cupcakes of Hope, the Bake Box Initiative, National Cupcake Day and other campaigns during the year.

“I was overwhelmed with the tremendous support and enthusiasm from the learners who listened so well and answered the questions,” she said.

Learner Revashen Govender was the first to put flour in the box and was rewarded for taking the first step and setting an amazing example.

Umzintovale, several other schools and individuals have made donations.

Naidoo would like to thank Sandy Cipriano, founder of Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer, Cupcakes of Hope for this initiative and the inspiration and motivation given to volunteer bakers and ambassadors.

Thanks is also extended to the school, Dana Daniels, Lee-Roy Christianson, Avanti Low, Bill Day, Judy Allen and Veronica van Tonder, Dorcas Day and the South Coast Herald.

Ward 15 councillor Dana Daniels thanked Naidoo for her efforts in raising funds for children with cancer through Cupcakes of Hope.”This non-profit organisation supports children and their families across South Africa with medical needs, daily living expenses and awareness campaigns like National Cupcake Day.
