Heavy rains forecast for South Coast with level 4 warning

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a level 4 warning for disruptive rainfall on Wednesday, September 24, affecting several areas, including the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.

Heavy downpours are expected to bring a number of impacts, including flooding of roads, bridges and settlements, potential damage to property and infrastructure, and life-threatening conditions in fast-flowing or deep water. Authorities have also warned of possible displacement of communities and hazardous driving conditions.

Residents are urged to take precautionary measures to stay safe. These include:

  • Staying indoors and avoiding unnecessary travel.

  • Not attempting to cross rivers or swollen streams.

  • Abandoning vehicles and moving to higher ground if trapped in rising floodwaters.

  • Moving valuables and livestock to higher ground in flood-prone areas.
