Cupcake cause raises funds for cancer

Shelly Centre was filled with colour, joy and the sweet aroma of freshly baked cupcakes last Saturday.

National Cupcake Day was held last Saturday, to raise funds for children fighting cancer through Cupcakes of Hope.

The Centre Court at Shelly Centre was filled with colour, joy and the sweet aroma of freshly baked cupcakes as volunteers, tenants and visitors came together for a cause that touches many hearts.

Shoppers showed their generosity by purchasing cupcakes, making donations and sharing their messages of hope. The atmosphere was one of unity, compassion and community spirit.

The event encourages individuals to bake and/or buy cupcakes at participating shopping centres across South Africa, with the goal of providing hope and support to child cancer warriors. The theme for the day was ‘#BakeItForward, emphasising that even small acts of kindness can make a significant difference.

“We are proud to have been part of such an impactful event. Seeing our community come together in support of children and families affected by cancer was truly heartwarming. The success of National Cupcake Day at Shelly Centre proves once again the power of kindness and collective action,” said Marie Sukkels, Centre Manager, Shelly Centre.

Ranjinee Ramdeen was thrilled to coordinate the event at Shelly Centre for the third time, being a Cupcake Angel herself. She’s been part of the organisation for a decade, driven by a personal connection when her daughter, Rachna, bravely fought cancer twice, and though she passed away, her spirit lives on through this cause.

“She’s a Cupcake Angel in heaven now. This year’s event was our best yet, and we’re overwhelmed with gratitude to our South Coast community for their generosity, sponsorships and support. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” she said.
