Empowering youth through driving licence programme
The Youth Driving Licence Programme is run annually through RNM’s Youth Office.
Young people in the Ray Nkonyeni region are being given a valuable boost through the municipality’s annual Youth Driving Licence Programme, which fully funds the process of obtaining a C1 (Code 10) driving licence.
On Tuesday last week, a ceremonial handover of driving licences was held, led by RNM Mayor, Clr Zodwa Mzindle.
The programme covers all costs, including learner’s licence classes, bookings for both learner’s and driver’s tests, as well as driving lessons.
Each participant is also given two chances should they not succeed on their first attempt.
For the 2024/2025 intake, 40 beneficiaries were selected. Of these, 30 successfully obtained their licences, six dropped out, three were unsuccessful, and sadly, one beneficiary passed away before completing the programme.
Speaking at the event, Mzindle said this initiative is one of many by RNM to empower young people.
“This programme equips our youth to compete in the job market, become economically active, and build a brighter future for themselves and their communities,” he said.
