Hawks investigate double murder of police officers in Mthwalume

A state firearm, ammunition and other items were taken during the incident.

Hawks members from Port Shepstone Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit are probing a case of murder at Makhoso location, near Mthwalume, yesterday (11th).

It is alleged that a 44-year-old former police member was sitting with a police constable (45) when they were attacked by unknown gunmen.

According to Hawks spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Simphiwe Mhlongo, several shots were fired, and both men were declared dead at the scene.

“A state firearm, two magazines, live rounds of ammunition, and cellphones were taken during the incident.”

Mhlongo confirmed that the motive for the killing is unknown, and no arrests have been made at this stage.
