Fed-up Marburg resident fixes potholes and cleans illegal dump site
A no dumping sign was erected in Saturn Drive.
A Marburg resident repaired potholes, and cleared up an illegal dumping site on Saturn Drive last Saturday.
Jay Briglall used his own resources and hired a helper to patch up several potholes and to pick up large amounts of litter.
While Briglall’s initiative was met with community praise and support, Saturn Drive has a huge problem with illegal dumping. He has erected a no dumping sign and calls on residents and outsiders to stop the illegal dumping.
“Illegal refuse sites can quickly become a breeding ground for rats and mosquitos. Toxins or hazardous materials can seep into the soil and threaten the health of residents. This illegal dumping site often catches fire and pollutes the air with toxic particles. I have erected a no dumping sign and if anyone caught dumping will face fines,” he explained.
With regards to the potholes, Briglall said most parts of Marburg are riddled with potholes. He along with his helper, Tonani Ndlovu fixed several potholes on Saturn Drive.
