Don’t build close to municipal infrastructure, warns Ugu District

The municipality urges all property owners to ensure that adequate space is left between boundary walls and municipal servitudes or infrastructure.

Ugu District Municipality is cautioning residents against constructing boundary walls too close to municipal infrastructure.

A recent pipe break left parts of the Albersville community without water after a main water pipeline was located too close to several boundary walls.

“The pipeline became inaccessible and had to be redirected. The rerouting of the water pipeline has resulted in additional, unplanned costs for the municipality and has caused service interruptions and inconvenience to other residents,” said Ugu spokesperson Zimbini Mpurwana.

The municipality urges all property owners to ensure that adequate space is left between boundary walls and municipal servitudes or infrastructure such as water pipelines, sewer lines and drainage systems. This will allow for proper maintenance, prevent damage and help avoid costly disruptions to essential services.
