Shafts’ tournament in Uvongo proves mini golf is serious fun

There were laughs, two holes-in-one and plenty of friendly rivalry as the annual Shafts miniature golf tournament teed off at Uvongo River Resort.

The annual Shafts‘ tournament proved that miniature golf is where high-stakes strategy meets absolute chaos.

From dodging tricky hazards to celebrating not one but two miraculous holes-in-one, the championship was a ‘hole’ lot of fun from tee-off to tea time.

Played in perfect weather at the awesome Uvongo River Resort course, the competitive spirit mixed with plenty of laughter made for an unforgettable morning on the greens.

Seven teams competed for the coveted cup and great prizes, sponsored by Tightline Fisheries and Ramsgate Spar. This year, the hosts, Uvongo River Resort, ensured every player – and even the spectators – went home with a trophy.

Sheer delight – Maureen Crowley gets the first hole-in-one.

The trophies were handcrafted by Unathi Letseka from the resort, who also presented them to the Shafts. Shafts chairperson Colleen Haggard thanked Unathi for the beautiful handmade trophies.

She also congratulated Norma Barclay, who recorded the fewest shots to be crowned champion. Kay Barnard claimed the ‘most shots’ title, while Maureen Crowley and Roger Linter each scored a hole-in-one.

A special certificate of thanks was presented to Carien Dippenaar from Uvongo River Resort.

Whoop, whoop Elvira Venter lands an eagle – a hole in two shots.

“Our hosts with the absolute most. We are most grateful to Carien and her amazing team for the five-star hospitality afforded to Shafts.”

Thanks also went to vice-chairperson Barrie Willis, who mapped out the course, named each hole and even offered advice on how to play on – or preferably below – par.

After 18 holes of golf, everyone tucked into tasty burgers from Ramsgate Spar.

Thank you to everyone who came along to support the champs and helped make the day a success.

The Shafts’ next get-together is race day at Uvongo Tennis Club on Thursday, July 16. Save the date – all are welcome.
