Umkomaas N2 freeway armed robber jailed

The accused used a toy gun for his 2024 crime.

Mfundo Thamsanqa Mkhize (19) was recently found guilty for a 2024 armed robbery case, which occurred on N2 freeway near Umkomaas.

According to police, on July 18 that year, a case of armed robbery was reported after Mkhize robbed a complainant of a handbag and cellphones.

He used a toy firearm to do so.

Swift action and crime intelligence led by Umkomaas Crime Prevention’s Warrant Officer Vusumuzi Dhlamini led to his arrest and recovery of the stolen goods.

Investigations were carried out by Detective Sergeant Knowledge Cele.

The Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court sentenced Mkhize to 10 years’ imprisonment, and he was declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Umkomaas Saps management has praised the officers for their good work, ensuring another criminal has been put behind bars.
