Mzimkhulu River bridge repairs speed up
Progress is well on its way and piling has commenced.
With the festive season fast approaching, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport is accelerating repairs to the Mzimkhulu River bridge.
Piling has commenced with large machinery on site.
The project, initially expected to take six months at a cost of nearly R200m, aims to restore the bridge’s durability for the next 25 years.
DoT states an acceleration programme aims to bring the reopening of the bridge to early November rather than late December.
While the bridge is closed, the P464 and the N2 serve as alternative routes.
