Residents in Boboyi were left shaken, but relieved after a black mamba was safely captured last Saturday from a cluttered storeroom by renowned snake catcher Sarel van der Merwe.

The highly venomous snake was spotted slithering into the storeroom, which was packed with old furniture and metal sheets – making the rescue particularly tricky.
“The storeroom was so full we had to remove items one by one to get access,” said Van der Merwe.

“The mamba moved all over the place and eventually hid in a cupboard, but after more than an hour I was able to catch it safely.”
Residents were grateful for the successful capture.

Residents had to remove some metal sheets from the storeroom, so Sarel van der Merwe could get to the black mamba.

Van der Merwe reminded the public that black mambas are generally shy, but can become defensive if cornered, and urged anyone who encounters snakes to call trained professionals rather than handling them, themselves.
