Residents are encouraged to separate waste for a cleaner coast
Ray Nkonyeni Municipality has introduced a new 2-bag project aimed at promoting recycling and reducing landfill waste on the South Coast.
Residents are urged to separate their recyclables into clear bags for collection alongside their normal refuse.
How the system works:
All recyclables in a clear bag are put out on the street on your regular refuse collection day.
The recycling truck will collect it from kerbside.
Where to get your clear bags?
Clear bags can be collected at the following points: Tweni Centre (Umtentweni), Pumula Superette, Southport Library, Hibberdene Library and in Southbroom. If you drop off recycling at Uvongo Library and at the old courthouse (corner of Alford and Marine Drive ) in Ramsgate, on alternate Wednesdays, Redeem Waste Recycling will issue clear bags.
Collection schedule:
Monday: Hibberdene town, Hibberdene Leisuredene Village, Woodgrange and Umtentweni.
Tuesday: Umtentweni, Pumula, Umzumbe, Melville.
Wednesday: Sea Park, Port Shepstone Country Club.
Thursday: Ray Nkonyeni municipal offices and Margate Retirement Village.
Friday: Southport, Sunwich Port and Mbango Valley Retirement Village.
What goes into each clear bag (items must be washed and clean):
Paper and cardboard: newspapers, magazines, boxes, packaging. Glass: place bottles and jars in a sperate bag (no window panes or windscreens). Plastics: water, cold-drink and milk bottles, yoghurt and ice-cream containers, bubble wrap, plastic bags. Cans: cold-drink and food cans, aerosol and deodorant cans and household cleaning cans.
