Park Rynie’s Ryan Pellew hooks top spot at Interclub fishing competition
The day delivered a few surprises at the scales.
Park Rynie Ski Boat Club had the pleasure of hosting its Interclub recently. Ten teams entered the competition, being the last Interclub for the year. Ryan Pellew of Park Rynie was the overall winner.
The clubs sent strong teams, and from the onset showed that they meant business. Day one was a full day’s fishing and the anglers had to dig deep and work hard. The day delivered a few surprises at the scales.
At the end of day one, there was a lot of speculation that day two was not going to be fished due to bad weather forecasts. On day two with first light, competitors saw that the conditions looked good and that the weather might hold for a few hours of fishing.
The teams all got on the water, and this is where the true sportsmanship of all anglers and the skippers came to the fore. It was cold and wet and they pushed through until lines up.
Day two delivered some more surprises at the scales. The ski boat club could see that no one gave up and fished hard and earned every point. The value of catching species once again showed its importance.
Specialised Rescue Unit was on site and and teams were in good hands if any emergency were to occur. Quentin Power and his team covered the safety vessel, first aid and emergency response. Park Rynie Ski Boat Club thanks Sam Ndlovo and his friendly staff from KZN Ezemvelo who attended the Interclub and checked anglers when they beached. They were friendly, professional and it was a pleasure having them around.
The club thanks its commercial operators for the use of the whole base and parking their vehicles and trailers outside the base to accommodate visiting teams and afford all boats entered safe parking. They also scheduled their launching and beaching around the Interclub schedule as not to interfere with the planned activities. Lastly, this would not be possible without the generous sponsors, especially the local businesses who came on board this year. The team standings for the 2025 Interclub is as follows: first – Park Rynie Barbarians; second – Natal Rod and Reel; third place – Durban Blue; fourth – Durban White; fifth – Umkomaas; sixth – Umhlanga; seventh – Durban Yellow; eighth – Park Rynie Juniors, ninth – Natal Interzonal Team; and 10th – Park Rynie Development Team. Congratulations to all teams on a hard, but good weekend.
