Run and walk in Port Shepstone and Shelly Beach to highlight gender-based violence
Community members and advocacy groups say they hope the turnout on November 21 will send a powerful message - that violence against women and children can no longer be ignored.
A call for action against gender-based violence will echo across the South Coast this Friday (21st), when community members gather for a walk in solidarity with Women for Change South Africa and the G20 Movement Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
* The event will start at the Shelly Centre roof parking at 11:00, where everyone will unite under the message: Stop Violence Against Our Women and Children.
Organisers say the walk aims to raise awareness, honour survivors and highlight the urgent need for stronger protection of women and children.
* Following the walk, a silent protest will be held outside the Port Shepstone courts at 13:00, to stand in quiet demonstration against ongoing violence affecting families across the country.
* Marcia Thobe Cele of Tough Cookies Running Club invites everyone to join a 5km run/walk against GBV and femicide at the Port Shepstone Country Club at 05:00. The colour theme is purple and black. Contact Marcia on 079 9117460.
