Big-wave surfer Chris Bertish to visit South Coast

The global adventurer will speak at Norwegian Settlers Church on Saturday, December 13.

World-renowned big-wave surfer, ocean pioneer, environmental activist and author Chris Bertish will visit Norwegian Settlers Church on Saturday, December 13 at 17:00.

Chris will be giving a short talk, a Q&A session and signing of his latest book: Super Stoked!

Save the date for an incredible opportunity to meet the South African big-wave surfer, whose life-story doubles as a testament to perseverance, purpose and impact.

It will be an inspirational evening you don’t want to miss, while supporting the Genesis Wave Of Hope surfing ministry.

Great explorer, Chris Bertish.

The book brings even more inspiration with his stories from Mavericks, Jaws, Todos Santos and beyond.

The lessons learnt through his incredible achievements in the decade since, including stand-up paddleboarding, solo and unassisted, for 93 days across the Atlantic Ocean and then five years later, wing-foiling across the Pacific.

Growing up with a love for the sea, Chris went on to claim the title of Mavericks Big Wave Invitational champion – one of the most prestigious and dangerous events in big-wave surfing.

Yet perhaps his most extraordinary feat came in 2017, when after five years of preparation he completed the first ever solo, unsupported, stand-up-paddleboard crossing of the Atlantic Ocean – a 7500 km, 93-day journey from Morocco to Antigua aboard a custom-built craft.

Now, Chris channels his experiences into globally sought-after keynote speaking events, books and films: using ‘Dream It, See It, Believe It, Achieve It’ as his mantra, he motivates individuals and organisations to push boundaries, redefine what’s possible and embrace fear as a catalyst for growth.

Beyond personal achievement, he uses his visibility to champion ocean conservation, sustainability and social change – donating part of his speaking fees to charitable causes, planting trees and partnering with NGOs to support environmental and humanitarian initiatives.
