R8m boost for rural tourism in KwaXolo
A multi-purpose centre is being built at KwaXolo Caves and Adventure which will include accommodation, a restaurant, activities and more entertainment for tourists.
KwaXolo Caves and Adventure’s expansion project is about 90% complete after an R8m injection, according to the KZN Legislature’s Economic Development and Tourism portfolio committee’s chairperson, Mafika Mndebele, last Tuesday, after his visit to the area.
Mndebele said a multi-purpose centre is being built at KwaXolo which will include accommodation, a restaurant, activities and more entertainment for tourists.

“Our main aim is to uplift rural tourism, let people explore more than the beaches, let them see the beauty of nature and have a rural experience.”
Inkosi Mxolisi Xolo appreciated the visit and improvements because when tourists visit they hear complaints of not having a restaurant close by.
“This has given us hope and we are happy as the traditional council as well. We have other issues that we have asked assistance for, such as the road to KwaXolo Caves.”

Mndebele also visited Margate Airport.
These two large scale strategic government projects are designed to ignite significant economic and social change in the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality and the lower South Coast at large.

Mndebele added he is happy with progress on both projects which will be monitored until they are completed and handed over.
Furthermore, he said that the Margate Airport sees about 22 thousand passengers a year. “It is important to have this airport and keep it functioning because the international airports are a bit far from people who live on the coast.”
The airport has also been renovated and recently acquired a new fire engine.
