Melville farm attack victim finally returns home
All who have followed his story or supported the family along the way are encouraged to attend a bring-and-braai at the Umzumbe Farmers' Market this Saturday (13th) at 14:00.
The Beetge family is celebrating that Dewald is finally back home.
Dewald’s journey has been closely followed by the South Coast community after he was critically injured in a farm attack in October.
The 22-year-old was shot five times, at close range, at his home in Melville.
For Dewald’s father, Karel, it is one of his happiest and proudest moments to have his son return home after such a traumatic ordeal.
Dewald’s story of resilience, strength and steady recovery has touched thousands, with many supporting the family through messages, prayers and fundraisers as he underwent treatment in hospital.
Now, in a heart-warming turn, the Beetge family is inviting the community to join them in celebrating not only Dewald’s homecoming, but also his incredible progress and the birthday he missed while hospitalised.
A bring-and-braai gathering will be held this Saturday (13th) at the Umzumbe Farmers’ Market at 14:00.
Fires will be provided, and attendees are asked to bring their own chairs, braai essentials, meat, salads and beverages.
The family says the event marks the end of a deeply traumatic chapter and the beginning of a hopeful one.
“This is a moment we have long prayed for,” said Karel.
“After everything Dewald has been through, we want to come together as a community to celebrate his life, his recovery and the support that carried us through.”
All who have followed his story or supported the family along the way are encouraged to attend.
