Major exhibition at new Sands Gallery in Glenmore Beach

Artists, particularly from Umgababa to Port Edward and as far as Cape Town have unleashed their most daring work for this bold exhibition.

Sands Gallery in Glenmore Beach hosted the grand opening of its latest exhibition entitled ‘Women and their Head-dresses’ on December 10.

Art enthusiasts, investors and anyone eager to expand their appreciation of art’s power cannot miss this exhibition which will run to early February, 2026.

Artists from particularly Natal-Mgababa to Port Edward and as far as Cape Town have unleashed their most daring work for this bold exhibition.

Artist Zamaxolo Dunywa’s ‘Inzalabantu’.

“For me, it’s been an exciting privilege to to assemble this work,” said curator Robin Broide of Sands.

For centuries, what women place on their heads has ignited debate, fascination and interpretation. In this exhibition head coverings transcend fashion.

They reveal complex narratives of power, protection and self expression. They also become vessels of identity and resistance.

Artist Beth Rautenbach’s ‘Strand Loper’ stuns with only driftwood on her head, transforming raw nature into regal ornament.

In contrast, Wilson Ngobhozi’s ‘Crowning Glory’ radiates cultural vibrancy through a Ndebele woman, a Metro woman and a married Indian woman.

Many other coverings expose cultural, historical, political and spiritual forces woven into women’s attire.
