A dedicated group of volunteers braved the heat and wind recently to hunt down snares on a farm in Sea Park.
A small team of five walked for about two hours through relatively easy terrain, searching for traps set for wildlife. Their efforts paid off as the group found five snares. Tragically, the remains of two buck and a porcupine were discovered in the traps. In many cases, poachers do not return, leaving animals to suffer long, agonising deaths.
Most recently, the South Coast Anti-Snaring Group discovered 35 snares on this same farm alone.
The initiative highlights the ongoing work of caring volunteers who strive to protect wildlife from illegal traps and raise awareness about the dangers posed by snares.
