A large black mamba was safely captured at Tajoma Farm in Hibberdene, as snake activity increases on the South Coast with the onset of summer.

Local snake catcher Sarel van der Merwe was called to the farm and successfully removed the highly venomous snake which was in the farm’s shop area behind a fridge.

Van der Merwe said warm weather typically leads to more snake sightings, as reptiles become more active in search of food and shelter. He urged residents not to approach snakes and to contact a trained handler instead.

A successful rescue as Sarel van der Merwe handles a black mamba safely.
