Tree of Light: A beacon of giving despite the storm

The special Christmas tree was placed within the unit, reminding us all of the many people that have passed through its doors on their journey home.

South Coast Hospice’s annual Tree of Light Remembrance Service took place on the hospice property recently.

The service went ahead as planned and the tree’s lights were switched on, marking a moment of reflection for families honouring loved ones.

This year’s tall Tree of Light carried a unique touch – dozens of soft toys hung from it. For every pledge made, supporters were invited to select a soft toy, each destined for a child in need.

Di van Dyk of hospice said the special Christmas tree was placed within the unit, reminding all of the many people that have passed through its doors on their journey home.

“Although the unit stands empty due to a lack of financial resources, the hospice team continue to travel out into the community to provide compassionate care to both patients and their families in their homes.”

Van Dyk thanked Sister Dina Thorncroft and Karin Warmin who conducted the remembrance service with the assistance of the staff.

“Thanks to the Margate Pipe Band for always supporting hospice. A special thanks to all those who took pledges, knowing that the toys will go to children in need this Christmas.” she said.
