2 dead in police shoot-out in Uvongo

The community has been rocked by the killings.

Two men were killed in a shoot-out with police, and unlicensed guns confiscated in Uvongo early this morning, January 5.

The victims are Mlondi Zithumane, the owner of Gasela Protection Services, and an unnamed security guard. This was confirmed by Zithumane’s brother, Banele.

Provincial police spokesperson Captain Ntathu Ndlovu said the duo were fatally wounded when they engaged with police in a shoot-out in the Uvongo area.

“Five unlicensed firearms, including two AK47 assault rifles were recovered,” added Ndlovu.
