Head-dress exhibition opens to acclaim
A powerful celebration of women, culture and identity drew more than 120 art lovers to the opening of the Women and Their Head-dress exhibition at Sands Gallery, with strong sales, thought-provoking dialogue and a curator walkabout still to come.
The Women and Their Head-dress exhibition at Sands Gallery in Glenmore opened to great acclaim, leaving a lasting impression on visitors.
More than 120 art enthusiasts attended the opening, with the gallery abuzz with lively discussion around the striking artworks on display. Feedback from attendees has been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the exhibition’s distinctive perspective and its powerful celebration of women through their headdresses.
Guest speaker Zama Dunywa delivered a thought-provoking address, eloquently reinforcing the importance of women’s strength, freedom and visibility in contemporary society.
Reflecting the strong impact and resonance of the exhibition, several artworks were sold on opening night.
Adding further interest, curator Robin Broide will host a walkabout on this Sunday (22nd), offering visitors deeper insight into the inspiration and cultural relevance behind the featured headdresses.
Quoting Maya Angelou, Aadilah Haffejee said: “Our stories echo across oceans and generations. When one woman rises, she makes space for another to rise as well.”
Art lovers, collectors and those eager to explore the power of visual storytelling are encouraged to visit the exhibition, which runs until early February 2026.
