Silent Book Club launches in Ramsgate

Book lovers are invited to slow down, switch off and enjoy the simple pleasure of reading with the launch of a local Silent Book Club chapter in Ramsgate this Sunday (1st) at 09:30.
The first meetup will take place at the Whale Deck in Ramsgate, offering readers a calm, outdoor setting where they can enjoy an hour of shared, silent reading. Bring your own book and read at your own pace, alongside others who love books just as much.
Unlike traditional book clubs, there is no assigned reading and no discussion during reading time. The focus is on quiet companionship and creating space to read without pressure. After the reading hour, those who wish can stay on for a casual meet-and-mingle.

The Silent Book Club concept is a global movement, with thousands of chapters worldwide. Ramsgate’s chapter is led by Charlene Becker, who says the idea is all about relaxed connection.
“I’m so excited to bring these bring-your-own-book reading meetups to our area,” said Becker. “It’s simply quiet time to read and enjoy being around other book lovers.”
All readers are welcome, regardless of genre or format, whether it’s fiction, non-fiction, poetry, an e-reader or a paperback. Seating is informal, and attendees are welcome to bring a blanket or chair. As the event is weather dependent, updates will be shared on the chapter’s social media platforms if needed.
