Clean audit for Ugu District Municipality
According to the the Auditor General's office, a clean audit requires daily commitment.
Ugu District Municipality received an unqualified audit opinion 2024/2025, with strong elements of a clean audit.
At a council meeting recently, municipal manager Vela Mazibuko, said it’s no secret that Ugu has no money, but it has been able to balance service delivery to the community.
“The consistency of service delivery while fighting for clean governance is music to my ears,” he added.
According to the Auditor General’s office, a clean audit requires daily commitment and it’s something that Ugu will have to start working on from now.
This unqualified audit opinion was achieved with no material findings on the annual financial statements and performance information, which means that these two critical areas were declared as clean.
Speaker Sizwe Ngcobo said that this marks an achievement in the history of the municipality and reflects a substantial improvement in governance outcomes, particularly within a challenging operating environment.
“In the last eight years I have not seen the municipality get such an amazing audit.”
The mayor, Skhumbuzo Mqadi, added that this accomplishment demonstrates the municipality’s sustained efforts toward improvement.
“It reflects diligent work, determination and a disciplined strategic approach by management, guided by a strong and healthy oversight from council leadership. This achievement is attributable to management, thorough and careful emphasis on monitoring, evaluation, and the consistent application of internal controls, all supported by a commitment to principles of sound and transparent governance.”
The AG commended the leadership and management of the municipality for this improvement, acknowledging the progress made in strengthening financial management and accountability.
