Port Shepstone Senior Primary principal’s legacy will live on

Having retired recently, Noel Baker's plans include spending time with family, travelling and enjoying whatever blessings life brings.

After nearly four decades of dedication to education, Noel Baker retired at the end of January, marking the close of an exemplary 39-year career in service to learners, teachers and the broader school community.

Appointed as principal of Port Shepstone Senior Primary in 2020, he became a pillar of stability and vision, guiding the school through changing curricula, evolving technology and a multitude of learners who passed through its gates.

Known for his firm but compassionate leadership style, Baker championed academic excellence while placing equal importance on discipline, respect and learner wellbeing. Under his leadership, the school experienced significant growth – from improved academic results to expanded extracurricular programmes and strengthened community partnerships with a policy that his door was always open – to teachers, parents and learners alike.

Reflecting on his journey, at his recent farewell function, Baker expressed that education has never just been a job for him, but it has been a calling of which he is proud. He is confident that what has been built, together with a competent staff complement, is more than sufficient for the school to continue to thrive.

As retirement begins, his plans include spending time with family, travelling and enjoying whatever blessings life brings, though it is certain that the impact of 39 years of service will continue to be felt long after the final school bell rings.

The incoming acting principal, Sumesh Moodley, together with the school community extend appreciation and best wishes to a leader whose legacy will live on in every classroom, corridor and learner inspired along the way.
