Umdoni’s top matric achievers honoured

The event saw mayor Mbali Cele-Luthuli join families, teachers and special teachers to celebrate 29 matriculants.

Umdoni’s top achievers from the class of 2025 were honoured for their academic excellence at the Umzinto Town Hall last week.

The event saw mayor Mbali Cele-Luthuli join families, teachers and special teachers to celebrate 29 matriculants.

“You chose to dedicate yourselves to your studies, to sacrifice leisure for learning and to rise above the challenges that life placed before you,” said the mayor to the class of 2025.

She further urged the youth to pursue scarce skills in engineering, medicine, and technology to build South Africa’s nation. The event was graced by the presence of Inkosi Musa Cele, who offered words of wisdom to the youngsters.

“My children, today you have not only brought honour to your families, but have strengthened the pillars of our nation. You are the lions of tomorrow,” he said.

“Let this success be the foundation upon which you build a legacy of service and leadership for our people. Continue to walk with dignity and hunger for knowledge.”

Sappi handed new laptops and other gifts to two deserving learners, ensuring they have the tools needed for their upcoming tertiary journey.

At the end of the event, all 29 learners were presented with laptops, trophies and certificates.

As per Umdoni Municipality, these comprehensive award packages will ensure that every high achiever departs with the recognition they deserve and the technology required to succeed in the digital age.

The mayor reaffirmed Umdoni’s commitment to assisting underprivileged learners with tertiary registration fees, declaring no child’s dream should be deferred because of poverty.

Umdoni also gives a special shout-out to the following top achievers who stood out: Devak Govender and Susan Tucker from Scottburgh High, Inathi Kayise from Malangeni Secondary and Sinethemba Dlamini from KwaHluzingqondo High for being among the highest achievers in Ugu District.
