Heroic Paddock cop rescues crash victim at Oribi Gorge
The constable remained with the injured woman until the arrival of emergency medical services.
Constable Fikile Ntsebesha from Saps Paddock came to the heroic rescue of a woman (29) whose vehicle went down a steep embankment at Oribi Gorge on Monday this week.
Ntsebesha was taking a passenger home when she heard the woman’s cries for help.

She immediately stopped the police vehicle in a safe place and went to investigate.
The area was extremely bushy and the heat was unbearable.

About 80m below the road, a vehicle had left the road and crashed.
Without hesitating, Ntsebesha descended the steep embankment while remaining in contact with the victim crying out for help.

The injured woman had maged to crawl out the wreckage and Ntesebesha ascertained her injuries before making the steep climb back up the embankment with the assistance of the passenger that was travelling with her.
She flagged down a passing motorist and requested them to go to Saps Paddock and get assistance as the cellphone signal at the crash site was very poor.

Ntsebesha remained with the injured woman until the arrival of emergency medical services who treated her on the scene for injuries to her neck, back and leg.
Paramedics from KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service responded to the incident and stabilised the woman, who is believed to have sustained multiple fractures.
Ntsebesha displayed phenomenal tenacity, and her level of fitness is indicative of the manner in which she rescued the injured woman. She actively participates in marathons and high endurance sports which greatly contributed in her ability to effectively respond under such harsh environmental conditions.
