Umzinto youth benefit from Rotary leadership course

The week-long camp focussed on personal growth, leadership, confidence building and community involvement.

The Rotary Club of Widenham, through the efforts of its Youth Leadership champion Suresh Autar, sponsored two learners from Umzinto Secondary to participate in the Rotary Youth Leadership Course (RYLC) that was held in Port Shepstone last year.

The annual programme is 60-years-old and is a week-long camp focussed on personal growth, leadership, confidence building and community involvement.

The learners, Akhona Zwane and Joseph Chipeta, were selected through a formal process and successfully completed the programme.

At a recent club meeting, the learners provided feedback to the members about their experience.

They described the course as highly valuable, noting that although participants came from different backgrounds, they completed the course with a shared sense of leadership, discipline and purpose. They left the course as a collaborative unit and have maintained contact with the other learners who attended.

The Rotary Club of Widenham looks forward to supporting more learners in youth development going forward.
