The high-level project management team meeting scheduled for yesterday (March 2) to address the unprecedented closure of the Umzimkhulu River Bridge on the R102 did not convene due to unforeseen circumstances.
At this stage, no further official update has been issued following the postponed meeting.
In a statement released by Ray Nkonyeni Local Municipality (RNM), it said its mayor, Cllr Zodwa Mzindle, is treating the matter with urgency and seriousness.
The Mzimkhulu River bridge has been shut since Sunday this week.
She remains in continuous engagement with the Office of the KZN MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma, to ensure that the situation receives the urgent attention it requires.
The mayor acknowledged the inconvenience and disruption caused to commuters, businesses, residents and all those who rely on the affected transport route.
The municipality is exploring all possible avenues within its intergovernmental framework to facilitate a speedy resolution.
An official update will be issued once further developments are communicated.
