Fundraiser aims to maintain Ramsgate Ramble
Funds raised will go towards the upkeep of the coastal gem.
A beautiful morning on the much-loved Ramsgate Ramble brought together residents and visitors for a successful fundraising event aimed at maintaining the popular coastal gem.
The guided ramble was hosted by Exploring South Coast, with organiser Deseré Bouillon extending heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported the initiative.
Funds raised will go towards the upkeep and ongoing needs of the Ramble, ensuring it remains a safe and scenic space for the community and visitors alike.
Ramblers were treated to fascinating snippets of local history shared by Jason Chesworth, representing Ramsgate Tourism, as the group meandered along the picturesque route. His insights added rich context to the area’s heritage and development over the years.
Suzette de Jager from Ramsgate Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association, who has long been dedicated to caring for the ramble, spoke passionately about her hands-on work and commitment to preserving the walkway – describing it as a true labour of love.
A magical highlight of the morning was a Tai Chi session. For many, it was their first experience of the gentle martial art, which was described as peaceful, grounding and unforgettable.
The group also had the privilege of meeting mystery artist Gérard de Jong, creator of the striking fisherman sculpture along the Ramble. De Jong shared insights into his creative process and spoke about exciting plans for future works.
A smaller sculpture was won by a resident who took part in the fundraising tour, adding an extra touch of excitement to the day. The group also visited another of De Jong’s works, titled “Bob”.
The main fisherman sculpture is currently on auction, with bidding closed on March 7.
