The Umtamvuna Marine Conservancy’s (UMC) annual Beach Pebble Treasure Hunt and Family Day promises to be a lovely and fun day out for the whole family.
On April 4, Easter Saturday, Port Edward’s Granny’s Pool beach and parking area will come alive when 40 numbered pebbles will be hidden on the beach for lucky children to discover! If you find one of the pebbles, hold on to it, for you may be eligible for a prize.
Helen Ueckermann, event organiser and UMC vice-chairperson says pebbles will be used as eggs will melt in the warm sand.
Before, there will be a short educational talk on why we should love butterflies and bees.
“Bring your pebble to the Enchanted Garden, where the prizes will be handed out – we will show you the way from the beach via a secret pathway through the indigenous forest,” says Ueckermann.
Easter eggs will be handed out to all who did not win a prize, so nobody goes home empty-handed.
Once in the garden, there will be chicken burgers and bottled water for sale, and the raffle winners will be announced.
There are two raffles – one for the moms and one for the dads.
Lastly, Ueckermann thanked the event’s sponsors for their support
“We are grateful that we can always rely on our local Port Edward businesses to carry us through,” says Ueckermann.
