Community-municipality work together to clean Umzinto CBD

Umdoni mayor Mbali Cele-Luthuli highlighted the importance of maintaining a clean environment for economic activity.

Umdoni Municipality held a successful clean-up campaign in the Umzinto CBD on March 17.

The clean-up brought together various stakeholders including the Umdoni Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), uMngeni EPWP, and the Umdoni Municipality Community Services cleaning teams.

Community members, councillors, and municipal management also participated.

Stormwater drains were cleaned to improve water flow and reduce the risk of blockages, while grass cutting services were deployed to address overgrown and unkempt areas across the town.

Mayor Mbali Cele-Luthuli highlighted the importance of maintaining a clean environment for economic activity, particularly for informal traders.

“The cleanliness of this town also impacts on our informal traders, as when there is overgrowth of verges, it becomes impossible or inconvenient for buyers to approach our market stalls,” she explained.

“It is of utmost importance that we keep our town clean, as it impacts on the livelihoods of our communities.”

Overall, the clean-up was well attended and strengthened collaboration between the municipality and the community.

The municipality thanks all participants for their involvement.
