Harding Primary learners taught importance of recycling

Learners had fun and found out how to turn trash into cash.

The Department of Fisheries, Forestry, and Environment visited Harding Primary to teach learners about the importance of recycling.

The theme for Global Recycling Day for March was Don’t Think Waste – Think Opportunity. This theme is all about seeing recycled materials as a seventh resource (like renewable resources) instead of just trash. It’s meant to boost the economy, spark new ideas, and cut down on carbon emissions by creating a circular economy.

Learners had fun, learned a lot, and found out how to turn trash into cash.

The main goals for 2026 are:

* Changing how we see things – thinking of waste as a valuable resource to reduce the need for new materials;

* Growing the economy – showing how recycling can turn waste into valuable stuff that can be sold;

* Being sustainable and innovative – working to lower the carbon footprint and help the environment;

* Getting everyone involved – encouraging people, businesses, and cities to recognise recycling champions and improve how to handle waste.

This theme is meant to remind everyone that turning waste into an opportunity is a simple, effective way to make a positive impact on both the environment and the economy.
