Traffic markers stolen from R102 in Umtentweni
The markers are critical in guiding motorists, particularly at night, and during adverse weather conditions.
Road delineators (traffic markers) have been removed from the R102 in Umtentweni. These markers, believed to be stolen, play a critical role in guiding motorists, particularly at night, and during adverse weather conditions.
Nolwazi Mkhungo, community liaison officer at JamJo Civils, said that the theft of these safety devices places lives at risk. “By working together, we can help prevent further incidents and ensure that our roads remain safe for motorists, cyclists, pedestrians, and emergency services. We kindly request your cooperation and commitment in addressing this matter urgently, whether through increased monitoring, community awareness, or additional protective measures,” said Mkhungo.

While the rehabilitation of the R102 and Mzimkhulu River bridge have come to a standstill, the chairperson of the Bendigo Residents’ and Ratepayers’ Association, Caz Meth, and deputy chairperson Donavan Fisher met with Scelo Majola of the KZN Department of Transport’s Service Delivery Improvement Unit last week.
The meeting addressed formal complaints previously submitted to the office of the KZN Premier, Thami Ntuli. These included challenges experienced by the community during the ongoing construction process; project delays resulting from non-payment to the appointed contractor; and constraints related to the limited concession granted by the South African National Roads Agency.
“Mr Majola has been fully apprised of the impact these matters have had on residents and local business owners. We await a formal report back from the department. We remain optimistic that the Premier’s Office will intervene to provide the necessary relief to our community,” said Meth.
